About Us
The Wangu Kanja Foundation (K) is a registered Trustee under the Perpetual Succession Act Chapter 164 of the Laws of Kenya. The Foundation was born from challenges that the founder Wangu Kanja went through after she was raped in a carjacking incidence in 2002. Her traumatic experience in the hands of the rapist, family, friends and the public led to her realization that she needed to take action to provide hope and healing for, survivors of sexual violence.
Vision:
To promote awareness, encourage empowerment, support and promote healing for anyone affected in any way by sexual violence.
Mission:
To ensure the provision of comprehensive and accessible crisis intervention and treatment services to survivors of sexual assault and abuse.
Overall Goal:
To empower any one affected in any way by sexual violence that could lead to HIV/Aids infections have redress, access crisis intervention and treatment in Kenya.
Objectives of the Foundation
  • To offer a one stop centre for survivors of sexual violence that offer a comprehensive support services like medical interventions, psycho social support and legal aid;-.
  • To reduce HIV/AIDS infections for survivors of sexual violence by creating awareness through outreach programs on the linkages between HIV/AID and gender based violence in relation to sexual violence;-.
  • To advocate for behaviour change by challenging the public and media houses on reporting, blaming and hating myths that exist about rape and sexual violence;-.
Activities
  • Setting up more Rescue/Rehabilitation centers for survivors of sexual violence.
  • Offering comprehensive support for rape survivors by offering counseling, legal Aid and medical interventions.
  • Capacity building workshops/seminars for service providers throughout the country.
  • Offering outreach programs by raising awareness, educating, informing the development of support services and acting as a point of contact for survivors.
  • Empowering youth economically by devising income generating activities to survivors of sexual violence and interrelated gender based violence.
  • To reduce HIV/AIDS infections for survivors of sexual violence and create awareness on the linkages between HIV/AIDS in violence against youth.
  • To bring the truth and realities of rape back onto the public agenda, ensuring the voices of survivors are heard:
  • Advocating for behavior change by challenging the youth blaming and hating myths that exist about rape and sexual violence.
  • To challenge media houses reporting of sexual violence.

Survivor, girls, boys, women, men and family members affected by Rape/Defilement and or Sodomy.
